David's convictions ran deep but never made attention-getting noise. His humane approach to everything in his environment wasn't always returned but he flinched not. I knew him only through the Oxbridge group and was lucky enough to have coffee with him at Wash U a couple of times. His sense of humor made the coffee memorable. I'm sure all his friends feel robbed.
