Unfortunately David knew hardship first hand. From the suffering of his parents, survivors of the concentration camps as teenagers. From his own difficult childhood at the hands of bullies. And yet these experiences did not lead David to turn inwards. I knew him from two different parts of his life: Climate Change and the Oxbridge society. David could feel the suffering of the planet and desperately wanted others to feel it too, so that we could work towards healing the earth. David could feel the importance of connections and relationships and loved to bring people together. Here is a song that seemed to be written just for him: LES COEURS TENDRES (Jacques Brel, 1967) Y en a qui ont le coeur si large / There are people with a heart so broad Qu'on y entre sans frapper / That you enter without knocking Y en a qui ont le coeur si large / There are people with a heart so broad Qu'on n'en voit que la moitié / That you only see half of it Y en a qui ont le coeur si frêle / There are people with a heart so frail Qu'on le briserait du doigt / That you could shatter it with your finger Y en a qui ont le coeur trop frêle / There are people with a heart too frail Pour vivre comme toi et moi / To live like you and I We miss you David.
